Locked in a Box

“Locked in a Box”
Sunday, August 12
10:15 to 11:30 AM – Social Hall
Facilitator: Seminarian Amy Smith

Attend the screening of “Locked in a Box” on Sunday, August 12, at 10:15 am. This film was produced by the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service in collaboration with the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance and Lutheran Social Services of Georgia in 2015 to educate the public on the effects of our immigration detention system, illustrate how communities are responding in faith and love, and to invite people to join their ministry.

This 18-minute film shines a light on our country’s broken immigration detention system through lifting up the voices of individuals formerly detained in the Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, GA and highlighting the experiences of volunteers who visit them. “Locked in a Box” will help participants explore the rich connection between our faith and the Biblical command to welcome the stranger and visit those in prison, while also offering next steps for our congregation to engage in faith-filled action.
