Biblical Storyteller

Biblical Storytelling, a ministry of the Worship HUB, is the oral telling of the gospel, and has been a feature of worship at Trinity for the past five years. Telling the gospel in story form hearkens back to the times when Jesus and the early Christians told the stories of God’s good news to each other.

Trinity members have been sharing the gospel in the same way, and have been amazed and gratified that the congregation as a whole is so accepting of this ministry. The storytellers are a small group of participants of various ages from high school students to retirees. They meet once a month, usually on the third Saturday, to choose their gospel. Each storyteller is responsible to tell the gospel for all three services.

The storytellers have enhanced their own faith formation by increasing their knowledge of the gospels and by growing in their spiritual life. They are committed as well to the faith formation of the congregation as they hear the gospel told in the way it was first presented to early Christians.
Lyn Dimmig, one of our tellers, said, “Doing biblical storytelling has been a blessing to me. At first, I thought I couldn’t do it; but a little voice inside me said, ‘Give it a try.’ The Holy Spirit maybe?”

She also said, “I enjoy sharing the gospel, and I have grown in my spiritual life.”

Learning the gospels and presenting them orally is a positive experience.
“I so wanted to contribute to the worship service beyond serving as a lector and assisting minister. Since in my distant past, I was in plays, and I was very used to speaking in front of others, I decided to try storytelling,” said Mary Kieras, another of our storytellers. “When I discovered that I really could learn and deliver the stories in a meaningful way, I was so happy.”
We encourage you to join us in this special ministry. Many of the gospels are short and easy to learn. All who are interested in this uplifting experience are welcomed to give it just one try.

Our newest storyteller, Dan Graeff, took up the offer and told his first gospel recently. “I wanted to be more involved after graduating from college. Learning the gospel by putting myself into the place and time of the story, and practicing at least twice a day has helped me grow closer to the scripture.” Dan continued, “Telling the gospel is helping me to better understand who God is.”

The Holy Spirit will be with you as you share the good news with all in the congregation. Contact Ministry Leaders Lyn Dimmig at lyndimmig@yahoo.com or Mary Kieras at mekieras@aol.com.
