Healing Ministry

The opportunities for serving in worship are many and varied.  The Healing Ministry, or the laying on of hands and anointing with oil and prayer, has given Trinity’s Healing Coordinator Cindy Dougherty reason to celebrate her call to serve in worship.

Cindy recalls, “I became a member of Trinity in 2004. I wanted to be the person who came to church, sat in the back and jetted out after church – but God had different plans for me. My call to serve came in 2006.

I remember thinking, ‘You want me to do what?’ This was my first reaction. I thought to myself, why ask me? I wasn’t one of the usual people involved with the worship service. You know the kind, the ones that are the lectors, communion assistants and assisting ministers. I didn’t think I was faithful or good enough. I don’t come to church in ‘Sunday clothes’. I am a sneaker and jeans kind of person and I have doubts. Sometimes I don’t feel like a very good Christian. I am unknown to most people in the church. But the more I thought about it, I said, why not?

“So I accepted, and boy am I ever glad I did! I want other people at Trinity who might feel like I did, to get involved in the church. I want members to think, if she can do it, I can too! And I want others to experience the joy I feel when I look into the eyes of our members and give the healing blessing. I want each one to feel a connection to the Holy Spirit, and the overwhelming peace that I experience as a Healer. As you receive this blessing, I want you to know that God is with you.

“There’s an old vacation bible school song that sums it up; ‘I have the joy, joy, joy, joy, down in my heart.’ You can have the joy that comes from serving, too!”
